Look at the first page in my original attachment 'BerrierMill2'. The headrace/sluice canal comes out of McLin Creek and goes around the base of a small hill. To me that says undershot.

This is a mill in Belgium that seems to have the same type of foundation as Berrier Mill.

The attached pic is another mill with the same idea. There's a gate to open and close each side.

Could be “overshot wheel” from what’s written there?

Without seeing the landscape upstream of the foundation it’s hard to say what type.

If the elevation change was not significant it may have been an “undershot wheel”? Again, hard for me to say without further information about surrounding grades/elevations.

Hello, fellow mill lovers. I'm Jennifer, the site manager of Murray's Mill in Catawba, NC. I have recently been asked about the foundations of Berrier Mill. It's located on private land about 5mi from MM as the dragon flies. The attached file 'BerrierMill2' has drawings of the foundation and a picture of what it looks like now. Has anyone seen foundations like this? We're trying to understand how the mill was put together. The fourth page of 'BerrierMill1' says it's not a turbine, but I can't read what it does say. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks.
