Peirce Mill - looking for a millwright....
Published on 5/11/2018
I am on the Board of Friends of Peirce Mill in Washington DC.
The site is owned by the National Park Service, but FOPM paid for the most recent restoration of the milling equipment
NPS paid for the work on the building and grounds
Anyway - we’re putting together plans to continue with restoration work. Currently the Ellicot drive system is working, the stones and the water wheel, but the elevators, barrel hoist, bolter, hopper boy, screen/cleaners, etc… are not operating…..
In addition to working on those plans, we do work with NPS on general mill maintenance and interpretation.
Its the maintenance side that is critical at this moment - we’ve some bits that need work soon.
NPS will pay for the work, but they need three bids….
I was wondering if you might know of any millwrights in the mid-altantic region whom we might contact about working on the mill?
I’ve worked with Ben Hassett and Gus Kiorpes in the past, but that’s only two names! (ugh to government requirements….)
Any help you can give me identifying possible millwrights would be most appreciated!
